SANDRA: THE MAKING OF A WOMAN

Sandra makes passionate love to a young sailor in her San Francisco apartment, and she recalls the path to her "sexual liberation:" Sandra's parents separate, and she remains on the family farm with her domineering, alcoholic father. He constantly accuses her of sexual wrongdoing when, in fact, she is chaste. Seduced by her childhood sweetheart, she awakens to the joys of sexuality. Her drunken father drives off a cliff to his death, and Sandra departs for the Coast, anxious to acquire more sexual experience. Hitchhiking, she is picked up by a traveling lingerie salesman, a fetishist who makes love to her while wearing one of his sample brassieres. In San Francisco Sandra broadens her sexual experience in encounters with a lesbian cosmetic saleswoman, a brutal motorcyclist, and a married businessman. She meets a psychiatrist who pronounces her uninhibited attitude entirely healthy. Her hometown lover arrives in San Francisco and is quickly rebuked for his possessive attitude--Sandra gives her body freely, and she refuses to confine her impulses.
